Fractal Bitcoin (FB) is a Bitcoin-aligned proof-of-work network built from Bitcoin Core code and optimized for faster blocks and additional onchain capacity. It uses SHA-256d, so the same class of ASIC hardware used for Bitcoin can participate. Mining is not simply “turn on a Bitcoin miner and receive FB,” however. Operators must choose the correct Fractal mining path, pool, payout address, firmware, and economics.

This guide replaces outdated price and hashrate claims with a practical 2026 workflow based on Fractal Bitcoin's official documentation. It explains Cadence Mining, merged and permissionless participation, hardware selection, pool checks, node requirements, and two current LeedMiner SHA-256 equipment references.

What is Fractal Bitcoin?

Fractal Bitcoin describes itself as a blockchain that extends Bitcoin's utility while remaining aligned with Bitcoin's core mechanisms. Its official documentation says it uses native Bitcoin code and targets a 30-second block interval. It is a separate network with its own blocks, fees, FB asset, nodes, and mining rules; it is not an automatic balance inside a Bitcoin wallet.

The network uses proof of work and standard SHA-256d. That hardware compatibility matters to miners, but it does not make every Bitcoin pool or payout account compatible. A pool must explicitly support Fractal's mining protocol and payouts. Before committing hashrate, verify the pool's current endpoint, fee, minimum payout, confirmation policy, regional latency, and record of recent Fractal blocks.

How Cadence Mining works

Fractal's key mining design is Cadence Mining. The official mining specification describes 30-second blocks and a repeating cadence that combines merged-mined and non-merged opportunities. The purpose is to draw security from Bitcoin-aligned hashrate while preserving open Fractal-native participation.

In merged mining, a compatible pool can construct work that lets the same proof of work contribute to Bitcoin and Fractal. This can add FB revenue without a second pass through the ASIC, but it still requires pool-side integration and valid Fractal payout handling. Permissionless mining targets Fractal directly. It may be solo or pool-based, but the miner still competes against network difficulty. Cadence slots and implementation details can change through network upgrades, so treat current node releases and pool notices as operational authority rather than copying a static configuration from an old tutorial.

Hardware for mining Fractal Bitcoin

Use a SHA-256 ASIC with a power system, voltage range, cooling design, and network interface that match the site. A miner advertised for Scrypt, Blake3, KHeavyHash, or another algorithm does not mine Fractal. Compare hashrate and joules per terahash, then model the full wall power, ventilation, transformer and distribution losses, pool fee, downtime, and FB/BTC revenue assumptions.

Hardware efficiency does not guarantee profitability. Fractal difficulty, FB price, pool luck, cadence eligibility, Bitcoin economics, electricity cost, and resale value all move independently. Confirm the exact variant, shipping origin, warranty, lead time, plug and voltage before payment. A catalog family can contain several hashrate and efficiency combinations.

How to mine Fractal Bitcoin step by step

  1. Choose the mining mode. Decide whether the operation will use a pool that supports merged mining, a permissionless Fractal pool, or a solo Fractal node. Do not assume one stratum URL covers all modes.
  2. Create and verify an FB payout address. Use current Fractal-compatible wallet software, back up recovery material offline, and test with a small payout when possible.
  3. Select a pool from current evidence. Check recent blocks in the official Fractal mempool explorer, but confirm fees and endpoints on the pool's own service page.
  4. Record the configuration. Save the primary and backup stratum URLs, worker name format, payout address, pool fee, firmware version, DNS and time settings.
  5. Start with a controlled test. Connect one miner, confirm accepted shares, reject rate, pool-side hashrate, worker visibility, temperature, power and payout accounting before moving a fleet.
  6. Monitor realized revenue. Compare expected and paid FB/BTC over complete payout windows. Separate pool luck, orphan handling, downtime, curtailment and exchange-rate changes.

Do you need a Fractal node?

A miner using a managed pool normally follows the pool's connection process rather than maintaining a full node. Solo miners, pool operators and developers need deeper node infrastructure. The official fractald release repository publishes binaries, Docker instructions and storage guidance. It distinguishes full-node and mining-node requirements and supports pruning for reduced storage.

Running a node also means maintaining updates, disk health, backups, firewall policy, RPC access controls, time synchronization and monitoring. Never expose RPC credentials to the public internet. Download releases only from the official project, verify release information, and test upgrades before applying them to production pool infrastructure.

Common Fractal mining mistakes

  • Sending SHA-256 hashrate to an endpoint that does not support the intended Fractal mode.
  • Using a BTC address where the pool expects an FB address, or the reverse.
  • Assuming merged mining doubles revenue or has no pool-specific requirements.
  • Comparing miner nameplate power with revenue while ignoring cooling and facility load.
  • Buying an out-of-stock or unpriced listing because a third-party page shows an old offer.
  • Evaluating pool performance from a few hours instead of complete payout windows.

Frequently asked questions

Can a Bitcoin ASIC mine Fractal Bitcoin?

Yes, if it supports SHA-256 and connects through a current Fractal-compatible pool or node workflow. Hardware compatibility alone does not configure merged mining or payouts.

Does merged mining use extra ASIC power?

The same proof-of-work process can contribute to both networks, so it does not require a second hashing pass. Pool and node services still consume infrastructure resources, and the pool must implement the required integration.

Is solo Fractal mining practical?

It depends on hashrate, current difficulty, cadence eligibility and tolerance for irregular rewards. Most smaller operators prefer a pool because pooled payouts reduce variance.
